In response to COVID-19 guidelines and to keep the community safe, the four-day Eggs-plore Bendigo at Easter program replaced the traditional Easter Festival celebrations.

The Eggs-plore Bendigo at Easter app was designed for families to explore Bendigo and take part in the City’s virtual Easter Egg hunt. Users navigated via a map in the app to locate the eggs that were nearby. On reaching the desired location the user could learn more about the site and historical significance. The user could tap on the egg hunt option to collect a colourful 3D egg and place it into a virtual basket. The basket option kept track of the number of eggs collected. Once all 10 virtual eggs had been collected then the user could enter the draw to win an exciting Uniquely Bendigo Hamper from the City’s Visitor Centre.

More than 600 people successfully participated in the virtual Easter Egg hunt collecting all 10 virtual eggs during the 4-day event held over the 2021 Easter weekend.

Catherine Dreis, Major Events Coordinator for the City of Greater Bendigo said that the Tourism and Major Events team were happy with how the app was developed and produced in a very short timeframe. She also expressed how happy the team was with the level of engagement and interaction from event attendees over the Easter weekend.
